Barrmundi, Awoonga Dam

Olly with a Barrmundi that he caught at Awoonga Dam

Fishing Report- November 2017

We will start off this weeks report with some great news!!!

After the large amount of rain we have had in the past few weeks Awoonga Dam levels have risen causing it to overflow. The great news is the fishing in the dam at the moment is "HOT" with plenty of quality fish still being captured. This means that there will still be a strong Barramundi fishery throughout the summer for all those people that need to get rid of that Barra bug while it is still closed season for the salt. The fish seem to be concentrated in the shallow bays in the early morning and late afternoon, as well as holding on the points in the warmer parts of the day. You will find small fish boofing amongst the lily pads with the bigger fish feeding on the weed edges during the low light parts of the day. The estuaries are also fishing well with a lot of small jelly prawn in the water. Its definitely worth trolling around a prawn imitation of Walk the Dog surface lure in search of Flathead, Grunter, Mangrove Jack and Bream.
