FISHING REPORT - Mid January 2018
The weather has been quite nice with a few good opportunities to get offshore with many reports of mixed bags being caught. Most productive areas include Lamont, Douglas Shoals and Sykes Reef.
The estuary systems are fishing well after the rain leading into Christmas with plenty of jelly prawn around, the fish are on the chew. Mangrove Jack have been quite a regular capture in the Boyne River with fishing around the gravel bars and rocky areas. These fish are best targeted with lures or live baits including Mullet, Herring and Gar.
Awoonga dam is continuing to produce excellent Barramundi fishing with people consistently landing over ten fish in a session. The fish seem to be active in the early morning and late afternoon with the odd fish biting in the deeper water during the day. Top water lures such as Walk the Dogs and Frogs offer a very exciting and visually rewarding experience and are a great way of targeting these dam fish.
