With beautiful weather all week the offshore fishing has been on many people’s mind. Spanish Mackerel are continuing to fire up on both trolled hard bodies and fresh trolled baits. The reef fish have also been quite plentiful with some great captures of Red Emperor, Coral Trout and Sweet lip coming from Rock Cod Shoals, Sykes reef and North West Island. Gladstone Harbour has never fished so good for pelagic species such as Trevally, Queenfish, Mac Tuna and Wolf Herring with the water clearing up and big schools of bait moving in. Whilst out on the harbour make sure you are geared up because there is plenty of Salmon and Black Jew on the move now. Estuaries are still producing nice Grunter along with the big winter Bream. Hot water outlet in the Calliope River is holding some very large Barramundi as well as monster Queenfish which is a great easy access land-based spot so hopefully this beautiful weather continues.
