This past week there has been a significant drop in temperature from the south and westerly winds, but it hasn’t stopped the fish from chewing. The harbour is fishing well for Blue Salmon and they will be expected to move into the creeks in the coming weeks. On the neap tides the deeper holes and rocky outcrops will be the go to for Black Jew and Fingermark along with some large Estuary Cod. In the creeks there have already been reports of quality Yellow Fin Bream as well as some beautiful Flathead and the great news is the Grunter are still hanging around throughout the Calliope River and South Trees systems. Grunters are a great target on lure and very underrated as both a table fish and a sport fish. Inshore areas including Rock Cod Shoals and Rundle Island are the hot spots now for monster Spanish Mackerel with trolled baits being preferred for the big fish and plenty of medium class fish being caught on lures.
